The Modest Rubyist

A blog about Ruby & Rails from beginner to advanced.

About

I'm hoping to write this blog as a resource for budding and more seasoned Rubyists. There are a lot of great resources out there written by some of Ruby's and computer sciences' best who have much more experience than me. Some of the people or resources I read are listed on the right. I don't aim to outwrite or out Ruby these guys, I aim to learn from them. I want to share some of my learning experiences with anyone willing to read them and give back to a community that has given so much to me. I won't always be posting about new Ruby & Rails stuff. You can read great sites like Ruby Flow and keep up with the Official Rails Blog. Instead, I hope to be posting useful techniques and resources new and old that have improved my Ruby & Rails skills and will hopefully improve yours.

About the Author

The Modest Rubyist is written by me, Jordan West. I've been a web developer for over seven years working for a Chicago based firm starting in high school. I now own Westward Web Development, LLC, a small web development firm providing web site and application development for clients. In my free programming time I enjoy programming in Ruby and C. I have been programming in Ruby for what seems like forever now but I'm sure it hasn't been that long.

Outside of programming I am also a student of mathematics from time to time at Indiana University. I love mathematics as much as programming and find them to be very tightly coupled. The more I learn about math the more I learn about computer science and vica versa. In my spare time, people closest to me will add, "when I have some," I enjoy spending time with my America Pit Bull Terrier, Nola, responsibly handling firearms, reading about anything of interest, discussing politics and having dinner with a smart, pretty woman over thought provoking conversation.
